spring break...

Last Friday was the beginning of Logan's first "official" Spring Break. He was SO excited about it, telling the teacher in the curbside pick-up drive ALL ABOUT it as he climbed into the car. Nine whole days of no school! We can stay up all night and then sleep late! And we can play as long as we want! Spring Break is so awesome!

Since Caleb was out of town with his grandparents, Lynn and I decided we would take Logan (and my brother, Patrick) to the Museum of Nature and Science and out to eat before they all headed to San Angelo on Saturday. According to the museum's website, they had some exhibits that revolved around topics Logan has been studying in school lately (namely a rock and mineral exhibit and a weather exhibit).

Well, we found the weather exhibit, but had no luck with the mineral exhibit...and everyone we asked about it seemed to have no idea what we were talking about. The website also indicated that the Dallas Children's Museum has merged with the Museum of Nature and Science. Um, all I can say is what a disappointment that was. I would expect the City of Dallas to have a somewhat stellar children's museum; however, from what we found...calling it mediocre is kind. In any event, Logan had a good time despite the lackluster exhibits and overall grimey feeling of the museum.

Once Caleb was home, I had my little helper back and we carried on like we usually do during the week, except for the fact that when it was time to go pick up Logan from school we didn't and oh my gosh, did Caleb ever miss his big brother! No less than five times a day did he ask to go get Logan. Caleb did manage to keep himself busy though. He played with legos and action figures and tucked his babies into all the baby gear that is now slung into every corner of the house. In between all this busyness he took periodic breaks, checking in with me, making sure Molly and I were okay. As I'm sure you know, these visits are typically pretty regular and when all of the sudden you realize, "hmmm, haven't seen the little bugger in a while and my, it's suddenly a little too quiet..." it's time to go see what havoc has been wrought.

Luckily, this week the havoc was minimal. Extremely cute, in fact.

just couldn't make it

Further proof that this child can and will sleep anywhere. He just curled up in the hallway by our stairs and fell asleep...I'm guessing the trek up the stairs would've been too much at the time.

logical thinking

He was very impressed with himself. He proudly pointed out that there were strawberries on the front of the box, but none inside the box so he fixed it.

There is art to made and crafting to be done, I swear. I'm just feeling compulsed to finish a few projects around the house first. Did I mention I bought some new gemstone beads last week? I did. And they are very cool too. I might have to wait to work on jewelry though...I haven't sat at my bench in awhile and my belly and me may not fit at the moment.

where am i? what day is this?

magnadoodle drawing by caleb
my hormones and i would like to apologize ahead of time for this meandering, possibly fragmented post.

Okay. In my nesting frenzy almost two weeks have managed to sneak by without a peep! I am blissfully unaware of most goings on around me as I've been laundering baby gear, making baby gifts for friends, keeping up with school stuff for Logan and Caleb, and so and so forth. Aside from that I'm secretly freaking out over introducing baby number three into all this madness! My brain is so jammed with hormones right now that I think it might be better if I came equipped with a mute button until my levels even out after Molly is born ☺. Although, I do feel like I have managed to keep my mouth pretty well under control when it was really necessary. Did I mention the rambling? My rambling is annoying me so I can only imagine what it's doing to other people...you see a mute button would be lovely. Anyway, on to other business...

Last week while I was sitting in the pick-up line waiting for Logan to be released from school, my phone rang and to my surprise and delight it was my friend Dawn! What a doll she is. Of course I knew this already from our emails and correspondence over the last couple of years, but to talk on the phone and put a voice to the face was a real treat. She caught me on a day when a mute button might have been nice, but I hope I didn't sound too lunatic!

a baby gift for a friend

I made this for a friend's new baby. I figured it would be fine to post before I actually mail because I have several friends with new babies either already here or on their way so it will still be a surprise when it gets to its intended recipient. I started out making the sundress using a McCall's pattern, but the fine people at McCall's are all smoking crack if they think anyone has the patience to use bias tape to finish TINY arm holes and leg holes. So I altered the pattern to suit my way of thinking and it turned out way cute if I do say so myself. My sanity was saved and the dress is completely reversible too. The bloomers are reversible as well; however, I am driving myself nuts trying to thread elastic through the leg holes due to the double seams. The next pair I make will have to be sewn differently...live and learn.

nesting? sort of...

Lynn spent this weekend working in our yard, AKA the weed jungle, and I cleaned out more drawers and closets. I am still amazed by all the crap we keep. I opened drawers in our bedroom that probably haven't been opened in three years...never missed a thing in them, AT ALL. Not even a passing thought like, "I wonder whatever happened to those 14 pairs of VS underwear and those 14 matching bras..." Apparently I was collecting bras and underwear just in case someone decided that undergarments could no longer be manufactured. Some still had the stinking tags on them! Of course none of them fit me anymore, thanks to age and breastfeeding, but that's okay. Somebody will be able to use the new stuff and the old stuff had a lovely burial service before it was all ceremoniously thrown away. After all the drawers were sifted through and put back together I tackled our master bathroom linen closet, AKA the land of entirely too many towels and bedding sets. I can't even tell you how many towels where in this closet...I know we haven't used most of them since we moved into this house over four years ago. We all have our favorites and seeing as there are four of us and I use two towels that means there are five large towels, a few wash cloths, a few hand towels and the towels for the guest bathrooms that work the rotation and that is it. But we still have entirely too many towels! The extras are waiting to be dropped off at Catholic Charities. Same goes for the four sets of king size bedding sets. Ugh. Too much stuff! The good news is that with every drawer and closet I get through all the clutter around our house is finding a home. This makes me happy. And I'm sure you know, when momma's happy, everybody's happy.

because i haven't carved or embossed anything in ages...
i carved this last week to stamp on swag stuffs for the paperbag swap rr i'm participating in.

Aside from the massive purge still going on around here, I've been sewing baby gifts for friends (pictures coming soon), working on the paperbag swag round-robin swap, washing baby stuff, getting the crib and bassinet put back together, and debating on whether or not I should attempt to make a new, girly cover for the infant carseat.

"you know, guess what..."

that's how Caleb begins most conversations lately and it cracks me up!

on its way

This is a side view of Kristin's paperbag swap swap album. I spent the better part of this week working on it and I hope she loves my contribution to her book. In the end I am very pleased with the way it all turned out. AND in the process of doing and re-doing I have come up with some great new ideas for future projects.

In other news, tomorrow will mark 33 weeks for Molly and me. My next OB appointment is on Tuesday so I should have a better idea of where my schedule will be heading in the next six weeks or so. Once I know for sure what the plan is I'll be announcing the Spring ATC swap particulars...nothing like cramming one last project in before the baby gets here!
