go buy this book...

Katie and Aaron bought this book for Caleb for his birthday recently. We've been reading it at bedtime in between various Star Wars chapter books. I have to tell you, I love this book. I am completely smitten with the idea of a Tollin (side note: little Tollins are called Tillets, awesome!).

From the dust jacket:
Yes, they do have wings, but no, they aren't fairies. Tollins are a lot less fragile than fairies. In fact, the word fragile can't really be used about them at all. They are about as fragile as a house brick.

The illustrations are fun; a combination of drawings interacting with photographed objects and vignettes. The stories are interesting and are worded in such a way that it's fun for the kids to listen to and it's sometimes hard for me not to laugh out loud at observations made by the author.

For instance:
pg. 34 The future looked dark, though to be fair, almost everything looks dark when you are wedged upside down in a cardboard tube.

Indeed.
pg. 44 When he lit the first batch of dust and blew his eyebrows off, they heard his cheer all the way across Chorleywood. He was pleased it has worked. He was also surprised, but without his eyebrows, no one could tell.

Ohmigah, that last one had Logan and I rolling last night! It still cracks me up.

So, yes, do go get this book for the little people in your life (or for yourself, whatever, potayto, potahto).
