the end is nigh...

the end of summer, that is. For these two anyway:

more monkey bars

We go to Meet the Teacher Night tonight where, obviously, we'll meet Caleb's Kindergarten teacher and Logan's 3rd grade teacher. Logan is seemingly nonchalant. I can't tell if he's nervous or excited, nothing. He's got his dad's poker face I tell you. Caleb just floats along enjoying what's left of his summer, taking breaks to admire all of his school supplies and his new backpack. Since he was in pre-school last year, this Kindergarten thing is no big whoop.

For me it's a big whoop: another one of my babies is officially school aged and I'm excited and sad at the same time. Sad because every morning when I watch Caleb eat his breakfast and listen to him talk to his brother and sister a tiny bit more of my sweet little boy isn't so little anymore. I'm tearing up as I type this! Ugh, lump in my throat, go away! If I want to see that" little boy" thing in Logan I have to pull up image files from awhile back because nowadays when I look at Logan I see nothing but boy. There isn't an ounce of baby pudge on him anywhere. His face has thinned into a big boy's face, long gone are the dimpled knuckles and it flat out takes my breath away.

I'm excited for both of them because they're both starting a "big" year of school. Logan's Kindergarten year was a real eyeopener for us: no nap time, homework every night, TONS of learning and cool projects. Caleb expects no less - sure to be a breeze, right? Let's hope. And third grade, well, if the supply list is any indication, third grade is get-down-to-business time. I have a feeling this will be the year that makes or breaks Logan's "interest" in school. We'll do everything we can to help him love it on our end and my fingers are crossed we get a really good teacher on the other end to round out the effort. I'll have the butterflies for Logan if he doesn't have them!

In other exciting news, Molly starts CDO the week after the boys start school which will give me TWO WHOLE DAYS to myself. Two whole days to work uninterrupted on art or sewing or, gasp, cleaning the house once and having it stay clean (until 3:30 when the kids come home).

Admittedly, I'm nervous about the CDO thing. I know she's going to be BORED with no brothers to keep her company during the week. Last year she seemed to enjoy her free run of the house on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but she also LOVED going to drop Caleb off and pick him up from school on those days too. She would wander down the hall to Caleb's classroom stopping to visit with the ladies keeping the babies and then make her way to Caleb's classroom where she would almost always grab a chair at the tables and do whatever the big kids were doing. Surely she'll be thrilled to get to go herself this year. Right? Again, let's hope!

I am still anxiously awaiting news as to whether or not I've been accepted into the Etsy Dallas Jingle Bash. Talk about butterflies! Keep your fingers crossed for me, I hear there are a TON of really good applicants to sift through and not very many spots available.
