um, it's august already...
Gasp, cough, sputter. How is it August already? It is amazing how most days this summer have flashed by in a blink...don't get me wrong - we've had our fair share of days that just seemed to stand still too; but, for the most part the summer has flown by. Wow! I suspect August is going to fly by as well. On the ninth I have to register Logan for school. On the tenth Molly and I are flying to Houston for the weekend to do wedding stuff with Aunt Katie (Lynn, Logan and Caleb will be doing "man" stuff [and according to Logan, bear hunting too]). On the 24th Molly and I are going to New Braunfels for the weekend for Aunt Katie's bachelorette party (Lynn, Logan and Caleb will be doing more "man" stuff). On the 27th we will meet Logan's first grade teacher and then he starts back to school on the 28th! I'm tired just thinking about it...

As you may or may not remember, Logan's birthday was back in June and he received lots of lovely gifts for his birthday. Well, last week we finally sat down to work on his thank you notes.

A while back I bought some really neat holographic sticker paper at Joanne's for Logan's thank you notes. What exactly we would do with it I didn't know, but it seemed like cool stuff to use for cards anyway. Once we got down to business I asked him to 1.) draw a self portrait and 2.) write out "Logan says thank you!" and the fill-in-the-blank thank you note body. As he was working on his part I was still trying to decide how to use the holographic paper...should I sacrifice a sheet to see if I can print on it? As I waffled over that question it struck me: print the image on transparencies...DUH. Once Logan had completed his tasks I scanned in the pages and began the design layout for the cards. I printed up a dummy for him to approve and everything was great except that he didn't have a logo on the back of his cards like all my cards have. Simple enough to fix: I just shrunk down his self-portrait to itty bitty and added (what I deem to be) pertinent information and viola! A pretty neat logo if I do say so myself.

I think we've started a good thing here. Caleb is already chomping at the bit to make his birthday thank you notes too. We'll just change the logo info every year along with the self portrait. Should be a really neat progression over the years.

I finished another outfit for the baby too. I am really smit with these little cropped pants. There's a whole mountain of fabric in my stash waiting to be turned into little cropped pants. I'd forgotten what fun it is to sew wearables!

I've been using up fabric that I've had for YEARS and don't have much yardage of with these first few outfits. Eventually (once school starts) I'll start using some of my stash that has more yardage. Until then I think there will only be one offs.
