milestones...

Logan lost his first tooth yesterday. Coincidentally, his first loose tooth was also the first tooth he ever cut. And he cut that tooth at two months old. At the time I couldn't imagine what was making my first born, normally mellow, totally delightful baby boy so completely miserable. But I soon found out and the rest is history.
Anyway, last week I noticed a permanent tooth had erupted just behind his primary teeth so I asked him if any of his teeth were loose. He wasn't sure so I tried wiggling the teeth and neither budged. I thought the tooth might need to be pulled...professionally. What a way to start out visiting the dentist!
Well, Logan's dental stars aligned yesterday afternoon. He came bursting into the living room from the backyard exclaiming he'd lost a tooth! He was so excited, so PROUD! Lynn and I asked him where the tooth was and Logan had no idea. Naturally he was playing in the sandbox with his brother when it happened; creating a needle in a haystack situation. We sifted half of the sandbox contents through a kitchen sieve with no luck. We left a note for the tooth fairy explaining the missing tooth and she/he left $5.41 under Logan's pillow. Logan and I were both perplexed by the forty-one cents. Lynn informed us it was tax. Apparently teeth are taxable nowadays and the tooth fairy is not exempt.
In other milestone news: Logan's last day of kindergarten in Thursday! He's grown up SO much. It takes my breath away! Look at this picture of him from August last year and then look at that picture from Sunday. Wow! Time really does fly. It seems like only yesterday he was cutting that first tooth.
